Fit-Again Messi Back From Injury Set For Atletico Recall

– Four-time World Player of the Year Lionel Messi could make his first start in two months as Barcelona travel to face Atletico Madrid in a top of the table clash on Saturday.
Both sides are locked on 49 points having dropped just five points each in 18 league games this season.
Messi made a spectacular return from a hamstring injury on Wednesday as he scored twice as a second-half substitute in the Catalans’ 4-0 thrashing of Getafe in the Copa del Rey.

Lionel Messi
The Argentine’s form leaves coach Gerardo Martino with a difficult decision as to who to start up front at the Vicente Calderon.
Brazilian forward Neymar is also available after missing the Getafe game with a bout of gastroenteritis, but the triumvirate of Alexis Sanchez, Pedro Rodriguez and Cesc Fabregas have deputised ably in Messi and Neymar’s absence in recent weeks.
Midfielder Xavi Hernandez hailed Messi’s return as great news for the club heading into such a busy period on three fronts and believes the competition for places can only be a good thing.
“He doesn’t surprise you anymore, but to see him in that form is impressive. He has returned hungry. The important thing is that he has returned in good shape and motivated,” he told the Barcelona website.
“We are strong and now that we have both him and Victor (Valdes) back there is a lot of competition and the team is looking pretty good.
“The game against Atletico is vital for the development of the league. It is not definitive but if we were to win it would be a strong signal of intent.”
Many believe Saturday will be the acid test of whether Atletico can realistically challenge Barca for the title.
However, midfielder Koke was keen to play down the importance of the clash with a further 19 league games still remaining after the weekend.
“It will be an important game because it is between the top two teams in the league. However, it is only one match and the whole second-half of the season is left, although we realise it is the most important game we have played until now.
“What matters is how you finish the season. It doesn’t mean anything if you win this game but end up not achieving your objectives at the end of the season.”
Messi’s return provides another problem for Diego Simeone’s men to contend with, but Koke believes the form of Pedro, Sanchez and Fabregas means that Atletico’s watertight defence will have to be at their best no matter who starts.
“If he plays we will need to be careful because he is one of the best players in the world, but Barcelona have a lot of great players and we need to be alert to all of them.”
Atletico are hopeful that Uruguayan defender Diego Godin will be fit to play after missing Tuesday’s 1-1 draw away to Valencia in the Cup due to a thigh strain.
Should Godin make it, the only big decision for Simeone will be whether to start the out of form David Villa against his old side or go with the free-scoring Raul Garcia alongside top scorer Diego Costa in attack.
No matter the outcome on Saturday, Real Madrid will be able to make ground on at least one of their title rivals when they travel to Espanyol on Sunday.
Los Blancos lie five points off the top of the table and will be confident of closing the gap having not lost in any of their last 11 meetings with the Catalans.

Super Falcons Qualify For Namibia 2014

The Super Falcons on Thursday reached the final round of qualifying series for the African Women Championship2014, after Sierra Leone, their next opponent, announced their withdrawal.
The Sierra Leonians cited lack of funds as the reason for their withdrawal.
The championship, the 9th in the series, will hold in Namibia between Oct.11 and Oct. 25.
Ademola Olajire, Assistant Director, Media, Nigeria Football Association (NFA), said this in a statement he issued in Abuja.
The statement said Super Falcons, the national female team, were scheduled to play Sierra Leone in February for a slot in the final qualifying round.

Super Falcons at their training for Nation’s Cup in Abuja on Tuesday
“Both teams were due to square up in a qualifying duel in February.
“Sierra Leone’s voluntary exit means that the Falcons will now have to wait for the winner of the fixture between Kenya and Rwanda to know their final round opponent.’’
The letter of withdrawal was addressed to the General Secretary, Confederation of African Football (CAF), Hicham El Amrani and copied to NFA by Sierra Lone Football Association.
“I write with regrets to inform you of our decision to withdraw our national female football team from participating in the aforementioned championship.
“This decision, which was reached at our last Executive Committee, is due to the present financial status of our Football Association.
“The financial situation makes it difficult to honour our proposed fixture against Nigeria in February this year.`’  (NAN)

I Played Gay Once But Labeled Gay Forever – Actor Benson Okonkwo

By: Kevin Djakpor

Benson Okonkwo, known as ‘Mr Packaging’ by his fans, has all it takes to make it in the competitive world of make-believe: looks, talent, the attitude and probably the X-factor. But actually clinched it for him was the gay role he played in the movie ‘One Dollar’ and the controversy it generated.

According to Benson, the role generated so much controversy that some people actually labelled him ‘gay’, failing to understand that he was only playing out a script.
Clearly frustrated Okonkwo said in an interview:
“You know one thing with Nigerians, when you play a role and play it well that’s what you are. I have done three gay movies.  But, I have 50 movies to my credit, I am unhappy about the negative reactions that trailed my decision to star in those movies. I insist that the public is ignorant of the fact that actions in movies are not real.
Although these movies sparked off controversy about my sexuality, I make bold to say that Nigerians are
hypocrites. They secretly enjoy watching porn movies, yet when they see Nigerian movies that contain suggestive scenes, they secretly watch them online and then drop anonymous comments. I am only acting and doing my job.
Although I have acted as a homosexual three times, I am afraid of being tagged a stereotyped actor. Despite the fact that the gay controversy has brought me fame, I want people to remember that I have not starred in only gay or adult films. Contrary to what some persons think, I have never been sexually harassed by homosexuals. I am not a homosexual. Notwithstanding the negative comments, it took much willpower to get into character. It was hard for me to accept the role at first, and it took a lot of convincing and support from the director before I could play the role.
The ‘pay was right,’ I enjoy the support of my loved ones in spite of the criticism. My family understands that I am only acting and the roles have nothing to do with my personal life or character, that’s why they stood by me and continue to stand by me. I believe that versatility is one thing any actor must possess, that way, he or she stands out.
Being in a relationship will not convince people that I am gay or not. Some have this mindset from the movies they have seen and the roles I took, so that’s it for now but I don’t want to talk about my relationship anymore. I have decided to keep it private.”

Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, Is Considering Running For President In 2015

While trying to deny a Daily Sun Newspaper report that he was in the APC Vice Presidential race, Governor Rochas, in a press release, instead made public that he was considering running for President come 2015.

According to the press release:
Against the backdrop of SunNews’ report, the Imo State government wishes to put the record straight with regard to the ambition of the Imo State Governor in 2015.
And to also correct the impression that the Imo State Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha is in the race for the Vice-Presidential slot of the APC, as the Daily Sun caption had suggested.
The truth of the matter is that Governor Okorocha is not in the VP race in APC.
There has been unprecedented pressure on the governor by Nigerians from all walks of life to
vie for the Presidency and he has been consulting on that.
His consultations have not been on the VP slot but on the presidency and at the end of the consultations, he would decide whether to throw his hat into the ring for the presidential race or not.

The pressure is also on the Imo governor by well meaning citizens of Imo State, including the artisans, farmers, traders, students, etal in the state to ensure the completion of the transformation he has begun in the state by seeking re-election in 2015.
And the governor is also yet to decide on that.
However, it is also good that the stakeholders said to have met according to the Daily Sun story where the name of the governor was mentioned for the VP race must have seen the qualities in him and what his administration has been doing in Imo that made them to consider him for the VP position.
While we appreciate that, the fact remains that Governor Okorocha is not in the race for VP for 2015. However, everything depends on God who gives power.
